Monday Bible study!

The girls playing after Bible Study Monday!

Hi Ya’ll!

Fall programs are underway! And what a great first week we had! It was such a sweet time getting to see each child’s face after a month break from programs! With the previous month used to pray, prep, and plan,  we started programs with renewed excitement and passion to see what God has in store this fall!

This year we are studying the life and ministry of Jesus using the Gospel Project Curriculum. We are really excited as we learn together who Jesus claimed to be and how that effects our lives.

As we laughed and played games to learn the memory verse this past Monday, it was such a good reminder to myself to review a verse that seems all too familiar. As I taught them, Jesus taught me. He’s just awesome like that.

“What do you have to do to for Jesus to rescue you?” I asked the 1st-3rd graders.

We then prompted examples such as,

“Do you have to jump up and down 10 times?

Do you have to obey every rule and be the best child you can?

Do you have to run around in circles?

Do you have to beg God to love you?”

And what relief to find the answer in the first part if the verse John 3:16, “…that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life….”

BELIEVE. That is what we are asked to do. No trying, working, or striving to be rescued or clean ourselves up. Simply believe that Jesus was who He said that He was, and did what He said He did . And through that belief, God works a miracle in our hearts, rescues our souls, makes us new, and begins the journey to show us how to seek and follow Him throughout our lives. May we rest in the finished work of Christ and BELIEVE today.

For Mentors, below I have provided the topics, questions, and memory verse we are learning about at Monday Bible Study. This is in hope that you can review it with your mentee when you are out and about if you choose. May God give you gospel filled conversations and questions as you both seek Jesus together.

The memory verse is John 3:16-17 (ESV):

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

The theme for the month of September we are focusing on Jesus’ early ministry.

  •  September 8: Jesus Met Nicodemus; John 3:1-21

Theme question: Why do we need to be born again? Because of sin we are spiritually dead, but Jesus came to give us new life.

  • September 15: Jesus and John the Baptists; John 3:22-36

Theme Question: Where did Jesus come from? God sent Jesus to earth from Heaven.

  • September 22:Jesus meets the Samaritan woman; John 4:1-26

Theme Question :What does Jesus offer? Jesus offers us eternal life with Him

  • September 29: Rejection at Nazareth; Luke 4:16-30

Happy Thursday!
